?GIBSON THUMP !!!?

แฟน Gibson น่าจะเคยใด้ยินคำนี้มาบ้างนะครับ Gibson thump นั้นเป็น character ที่บรรยายเสียงของ Gibson รุ่น vintage ซึ่งเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของยี่ห้อนี้ ผมขอยกคำอธิบายมาเป็นภาษาอังกฤษนะครับเพราะถ้าแปลเป็นไทยแล้วจะอ่านไม่รู้เรื่อง

"Martins love that harmonic cascading grand piano thing, and the volume of a good one fills up the room like a cotton candy kernel just popped.

But Gibsons? They concentrate on the Big Fundamental, and have a visceral thump that pummels you, like someone in that cotton candy room just threw a sledgehammer just at you. So nope, Gibsons won't shimmer and sheen with overtones, which Martin lovers will call "dead." But Gibson lovers rely on the more focused attack to really pound out some honkeytonk blues like Martin only wished it could do."

Because Ren apparently has pretty wide latitude in his designs, Bozeman Gibsons are more representations of older guitars than balls on accurate reproductions of something from their past catalogs - with the exception of the rather pricey Legend Series. Bracing, as example, while it may be positioned the same as on a 1930s or 1940s guitar is shaped differently. Not saying one is better than the other - just different. And Gibson Monatan can make a heck of a guitar. If anything, to my ears the newer Gibsons are brighter sounding and a bit boomier than their older kin.

If there is one complaint you hear about Bozeman-made Gibsons it is that they are incredibly inconsistent in sound and build quality (things such as sloppy cuts on the kerfing). Ya just may have to go through a bunch to find a keeper but when you do you got yourself a dose of magic. Some of the best Gibsons I have heard have come out of Gibson particularly those made in the Custom Shop. Then again, some of the worst Gibsons I have ever played also came out of Bozeman".

ย่อหน้าสุดท้ายนี่ผมเห็นด้วยอย่างแรง ผมเองก็ใด้ลอง Gibson มาแล้วเป็นร้อยตัวและใด้ครอบครองมาไม่ต่ำกว่าสามสิบตัว ตัวที่ผมชอบจริงๆนั้นคงจะอยู่กับผมไปจนตายเพราะถ้าขายไปก็หาใหม่ไม่ใด้ที่เสียงเหมือนกันแม้จะเป็นรุ่นเดียวกันก็ตาม ส่วนยี่ห้ออื่นๆนั้นใครอยากซื้อผมก็ขายเพราะผมสามารถหาตัวใหม่ใด้ที่เสียงเหมือนตัวเก่า

ลองกลับไปฟังคลิปข้างบนดูครับว่า "Gibson Thump" มันคืออะไรกันแน่หรือฟังจากคลิปนี้ก็ใด้ครับ




ส่วน "New Tone" ของ Gibson ที่เริ่มมี harmonic เหมือน Martin และ shimmer เหมือน Taylor และมีย่านเบสที่หนาขึ้นแต่กระแทกกระทั้น (Thump) น้อยลงนั้นน่าจะเริ่มจาก Custom Line series (CL) ที่ผลิตออกมาในปี 1996 ตามมาด้วย Songwriter Series ครับ มาลองฟังเสียงดู ผมว่าถ้าหลับตาฟังคงเดาไม่ถูกว่ามันคือ Gibson หรอกครับ (CL series ยังไม่ใด้อัดเสียงครับ)
