Hi pop,
This is a very good question but very hard to answer.Big Grin
But you've already answered your own question about your emotionally progress which I fully agree.

You see, to my opinion, progress is a personal perception and very deceiving illusion. And I can say most of the time you judge it by somebody else's approvals which in my opinion is not really accurate.

And sometimes you simply misjudged yourself and thought you are going downhill or literally passed your prime or hit the wall.
I would dare you to do this, if you ever recorded/video yourself in the past. You can do it again by those same songs, then listen/see and you can be more precisely judge yourself if you are going downhill or cruising up without knowing it.

If you never record/video yourself playing then "DO IT NOW", you got no excuse in this Hi Tech era. Go out and buy one of those cheap devices or even risk your reputation by couragely put it up on YouTube and ask friends and people for sincere comments. What have you got to lose?Rolleyes

Take me for an example, I literally quit playing/learning bass since 1978 (literally 30 years ago). I literally quit playing/learning guitar since 1969 or even earlier (because I became a bassist for W@@dy's rock band!)Tongue

I tangled up with guitar again in around 2001 when my kids and my family were kind of stable on themselves. I started from scratches and crawled back at it again after so many years of absent and never looked back.

So the moral of this story is;
Pop, you can go back and learn again like you said, you can directly learn from guitar teacher or indirectly learn from your guitar player friends (or YouTube) that know something that you don't know but want to know, you just simply ask them to teach you how and your true friends will graciously teach you and bravo, you got it!.
It never hurts to know more and that's for sure. And in most cases it will stimulate you to practice and as you know "Practice and repetition is the mother of skill".Cool

I started from ground zero at the age of 53 and so can you and anybody else, and when I was that bad there was no way I could be worse and here I am proudly presented myself (as bad as I am now) to the whole world via YT. I think I'm getting better little by little everyday. Too bad I have only not that many years to learn but I always accept what I can't change anyway.

Sorry about "I, me, mine" bla, bla, bla....... I can't speak for nobody else.Big Grin

Certainly hope this will help somebody out there too.
[A friendship needs a little mulch of contacts every so often-just to save it from drying out completely.

I always have great pleasure being alone by myself to play, If you're playing for any other reason, it won't last.
