"The Water Is Wide" (บ้างก็เรียก"O Waly, Waly") เป็นEnglish folk song ที่ร้องกันมาตั้งแต่ ศรรษตวรรษที่ 16 ทั้งในประเทศอังกฤษ และ สก๊อตแลนด์

ซึ่งเนื้อร้องจะหยิบเอามาจากโคลงกลอนพื้นบ้าน(Ballad) ซึ่งเนื้อยาวมาก ( ซึ่งค้นหาได้จากบันทึกของFrancis James Child ในชุดที่มีชื่อว่า Child Ballads ใน Balladที่ 204 http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/eng/child/ch204.htm) และมีการพัฒนาเปลี่ยนแปลงจากยุคสู่ยุค จากรุ่นสู่รุ่น ให้กระชับมาเรื่อยๆ จนเป็นเนื่ฃ้อร้องที่ร้องกันอยู่ในปัจจุบัน
