No it's certainly not!

More than 900 recorded cover versions by other artists are known. The song has been included in many music compilations over the decades and has also been used in the soundtracks of numerous films

Extracted from Wikipedia;
"Reid told Songfacts that he got the title at a party, which gave him a starting point for the song He overheard someone at the party saying to a woman, "You've turned a whiter shade of pale," and the phrase stuck in his mind The original lyrics had four verses, of which only two are heard on the original recording. The third verse has been heard in live performances by Procol Harum, and more seldom also the fourth The author of Procol Harum: beyond the pale, Claes Johansen, suggests that the song "deals in metaphorical form with a male/female relationship which after some negotiation ends in a sexual act." This is supported by Tim de Lisle in Lives of the Great Songs, who remarks that the lyrics concern a drunken seduction, which is described through references to sex as a form of travel, usually nautical, using mythical and literary journeys. Other observers have also commented that the lyrics concern a sexual relationship."

And just in case anyone doesn't know this song. Here it is and you can judge it yourself how GRANDIOSE it was and still is;

Somewhere from "Googles"
In an interview with the BBC in the ?90s, Fisher explained he based his melody on Johann Sebastian Bach?s ?Air on a G String? and ?Sleepers Awake?, ?? plus, there?s an awful lot of it that isn?t really based on anything, it?s just me. It?s a bit of a hodge-podge.? Specifically, the song?s long note at the beginning, companioned with a descending bass, is borrowed from ?Air?, while the baroque figure (the ?deedle dee?) that follows took its inspiration from ?Sleepers Awake?, though Fisher added his own variation to accommodate the bass part.

IMHO; You can agree or you can disagree too!

It's really personal opinion I'd sayBig Grin

I'll leave you all to ponder about itTongue

But the bottom is the notes sound so delicious, aren't they?
No matter how the cook mixed his ingredients Ha, ha, ha........

Your comment got me thinking, as I recalled singing this song with our "Nimit" angels backed me up ( Hattaya, pOoH, Pussyjazz, pOPPie, and few others) on the stage at Pood's new year party.

When I read it, I thought "Hey man, at my age nobody knows if I'll be able to come back to Thailand or not?"

So just in case, I picked up my trusty Martin OOO-16SGT with old strings and proceeded to upload my "LIVE" version with Karaoke back up.

Here's for you "Labour"
(and when will you going to upload your "Can't help falling in love with you" for me through YouTube?)Big Grin

We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away

When we called out for another drink
The waiter brought a tray

*** And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

She said, 'There is no reason
And the truth is plain to see.'
But I wandered through my playing cards
And would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast

And although my eyes were open
They might have just as well've been closed ***
ขอบคุณมากครับ พี่ Nap.

Dear Lab,
Make it short and precise here, if you can afford to have a guitar then it shouldn't be that hard to start your own YouTube channel now ( I presume that you already own a set of computer!)
It cost me about $40 or so when I started to fool around with YT to start up my YT channel about a year ago when I was about to retire at that time.
I bought a cheap Webcam (Creative) and jumped in right away.
This is one of the result that I think it's critical to show you here;

As you can see it was shot in Jan. 2009, and it was crude and primitive but that's the price you paid for doing it at the first stage of your creation but it certainly served your purpose.

It'll cost you nothing to joy YT and start up your own account as you may know. Don't let your self-doubt and intimidation stop you from sharing your love of music (among the others) to the whole world and particularly to your friends and loved ones. Like I said it's so cheap to start it up and gravitate from there. Now I have a better HD Samsung camcorder in stead of cheap Webcam and still having fun doing it despite my lack of musical ability.

But I strongly believe in "If the best birds are only allowed to sing in the forest then it's going to be so quite in that forest". So there I am in YT forest, still chirping around at my own musical level for my friends and loved one and particularly me grandkids when I'm gone from the face of this earth.

I hope my opinion about this thing will inspire you (and whoever happens to read this) to join YT, nobody lives forever but you can use this high tech stuff to leave some memories of yours in motion pictures in stead of just pictures that my generation had in the past to make you almost live forever like never before. Do not too self-concious about how good you're going to be or looked or heard in that YT (you'll be as bad and as ugly as you are no matter how you try to pretend to be good/handsome as you may want :-))) Let face it, nobody really cares about those external stuffs. Your friends just want to have something to remember you by and YT is not a bad place to come and visit you!!

Just start it up Lab my friend !
