สมัยที่ผมใช้ชีวิตอยู่อเมริกานั้นผมมีต้นไม้ที่ผมโปรดคือต้น birch ที่ชอบก็เพราะลำต้นมันเป็นสีขาวซึ่งดูสวยมากในฤดูใบไม่ร่วงและฤดุหนาวเมื่อมีหิมะคลุมพื้นดินครับ








เมื่อสามสิบปีที่แล้วก็เคยตัดสินใจไปซื้อกระท่อมกลางป่า (แต่ใกล้เมือง) เพราะอยากจะอยู่กับธรรมชาติบ้างหลังจากที่อยู่ในเมืองมาตลอดชีวิต

หน้าบ้านครับ




สนามหลังบ้านมีต้น birch อยู่ห้าหกต้นด้วย




สมัยนั้นรู้แต่ว่า red birch นี่เป็น tonewood ด้วยเพราะ Gibson เคยแอบเอามาใช้แทน maple จนถึงยุค 1940's Martin นั้นก็เคยนำมาใช้อยู่ใน Sustainable Woods Series เมื่อไม่กีปีมานี่เองเหมือนกัน

Martin "Red Birch" มีสองรุ่นคือ SWD Red Birch ที่ผลิตระหว่างปี 2003-2004 และ OMC Red Birch ที่ผลิตในปี 2007 ทั้งสองรุ่นผลิตไม่เยอะเพราะไม้มีจำกัดครับ

บางทีเรื่องราวของกีต้าร์ มันก็มีค่ามากกว่า คุณภาพของเสียงจริงๆครับ
ไม่ต่องจัดแสง จัดฉากอะไรทั้งนั้น

อยากมีเรื่องราวอย่างนี้บ้าง ขอไปตัดมะม่วงหลังบ้านก่อน จะเอามาทำกีต้าร์

ความจริงแล้ว birch นั้นเป็นไม้ที่ Llyod Loar เลือกใช้ในการผลิต Gibson F-5 mandolin และ Gibson L-5 ซึ่งเป็น F-hole guitar รุ่นแรกของโลก

ราคากลางของ F-5 mandolin Lloyd Loar signature นั้นอยู่ที่ 175,000-200,000 USD ครับ

ทั้งสองรุ่นใช้ไม้หลังเป็น carved figured birch ซึ่งหลังจาก Lloyd Loar ลาออกไปในปี 1925 Gibson ก็หันมาใช้ maple แทน

I definitely agree with him, it could be the quality of my hearing that caused it. But again "To each his own"
